SAFARI...
TRY SOMETHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY AND COME TO JOIN
US! |
 |
Join us for a different
excursion, far away from mass tourism and experience what
the true Zakynthos has to offer. We will drive you around
in Land Rovers with a maximum of 8 passengers in each
car. The tour leads you on dirt tracks through olive groves,
vineyards and picturesque mountain villages. The beautiful
scenery and views are breathtaking and all day long you
will be surrounded by the scent of herbs and flowers that
grow abundantly all over the island. To cool off a bit,
we will stop to a nice beach, so you can relax and have
a swim in the clear blue sea. You are also given the opportunity
to visit the Blue Caves with a small boat. Afterwards
we stop at a small local taverna for lunch. There will
be stops every half hour where our professional drivers/guides
give information about agriculture, herbs, flowers and
so on.
And
the adventure begins...
 |
Once you get in the jeeps,
you will notice that... something is in the air!
Everybody is ready for a big adventure, everybody
is longing to go to those hidden places of Zakynthos
and meet the beautiful nature that the island offers. |
Meeting point for all
jeeps after morning pick-ups is the " Langadakia
Village".
Here, a mystery spreads around due to the ruins you see
from the old village of "Langadakia" after the devastating
earthquake in 1953. At the end of the old village, you
will stop at the highest point of the hill and admire
the excellent view of Laganas and Vassilikos bay (in the
southern part of Zante). You will be able to enjoy a variety
of herbs and flowers that grow in the mountains and in
this area will feel the embracing of the fresh air.
Following the off-road,
the next stop is the Old Monastery of " Yperagathos".
During your ride, you will be fascinated by the lush green
scenery... You must know that Zakynthian mountains are not
bare. They are full of farms, vineyards, olive groves,
walnuts, flowers and herbs.
In "Yperagathos monastery" built in 1601,
you will have the chance to see the church inside (with
some old icons and paintings), plus the biggest well of
the island!
Leaving the monastery,
you will come across the farmers cultivating their farms
in the old traditional way. Suddenly, a very small and
picturesque village appears, called "Loucha",
which is one of the highest situated and also oldest villages,
now inhabited by only few people. Here, it’s time for
coffee break. You relax in a very old and traditional
cafe, kept by the owner for generations now. The panoramic
view of the village and gardens is breathtaking with only
the chirping of birds to keep you company.
We continue through the
off road and we pass the "Mount Vrahionas",
700m. high and from the highest peak we enjoy the bird
eye view of Alykes Bay that captivates the whole west
side of Zakynthos. If you are lucky, you might come across
hares and some rare species of birds.
Our next stop is "Makris
Gialos" beach, which one of the most photographed
beaches of the island. The clear bleu-green of the sea,
the big caves and the small pebbles, makes this the perfect
scenery to relax and enjoy your swim. Also, you have a
choice to visit the famous "Blue Caves" in the north by
small speedboats. (the visit to the "Blue Caves" is optional and not included in the price).
It's time for
lunch!!! and Nikos will offer you delicious traditional
Greek food in his taverna, overlooking the sea!
Going through some picturesque
villages and have another stop at the biggest village
of the island (after zante town), which is called "Volimes".
The village here is well-known for the Zakynthian handicrafts
and other local products. You will have the chance to
shop around for handmade rugs, local goods and what more
Dimitris will give you to taste of his wine and honey
(home-made and biological products).
You have all heard of
the "Shiwreck" so... it is time to see
it now from the top of the cliff! You will definitely
enjoy the breathtaking view from this viewpoint and you
will take your own postcard-photograph.
If we have time, we will
visit another picturesque beach the "Porto Vromi".
It's a small beach with white pebbles and crystal green
waters.
Our last stop is the
village of "Exo Hora" where you see the
most impressing and probably the oldest olive tree on
the island. It is said to be 2000 years old and here the
guides will reveal you some of its hidden shapes of figures!
